Ritz Carlton Laguna Niguel
Design direction for this preeminent resort on southern California’s rocky coast is a repositioning of an aesthetically traditional property into a less formal and more current concept. The design is a contemporary, fresh and sophisticated take of the traditional design vocabulary consisting of the usage of very high end finishes expressed in new and unexpected ways. The color palette of beige, ice blue and chocolate, is elegant in its clean and tasteful starkness. The volumes and shapes of the spaces recall historical elements, but the application of materials makes for a refreshing update of these ideas.
The spa entry features an intricate marble and glass mosaic floor a theme that continues throughout the spa. A contemporary crystal wall floats in the Lobby space while modern crystal chandeliers highlight the corridor, recalling the vocabulary of the hotel’s historical fixtures. Arching water features mimic the groin vaulted plaster entry. The use of water as art form is thematic throughout the spa including individual cascading water walls within each treatment room. The private men’s and women’s areas include bath, toilet and locker facilities as well as steam, sauna and relaxation lounges.
